Ecopneus Funds Educational Project

Italy: Tuscan schools are invited to participate in a project that could win them a recycled rubber basketball court.

Ecopneus Encourages Environmental Awareness

Tuscan schools can enter a competition “For the correct recycling of End of Life Tyres“.

An innovative recycled rubber field for 3×3 basketball will be donated by Ecopneus to the Tuscan school that creates the best multimedia project linked to the correct recovery of End of Life Tyres.

The project, now in its 10th edition after involving over 10,000 students in 9 Italian regions, is promoted by Ecopneus in collaboration with Legambiente and is aimed at all children in lower and upper secondary schools in Tuscany.

It is with this premise that the competition “For a correct recycling of End of Life Tyres” starts, organised as part of the Educational Project promoted by Legambiente and Ecopneus. The competition invites young people to undertake a training course on good environmental practices and create a video or presentation with images, drawings and interviews on the topic of ELT management.

The training project will see the students of the first and second grade secondary schools of the Region work together with the teachers to build a positive message on the benefits deriving from the correct management of ELTs, and on the importance of legality in the purchase of new tyres, thus avoiding any potential environmental risk and instead exploiting the many advantages possible with the use of a precious material such as recycled rubber.

Participating classes will have to produce a video of a maximum of 3 minutes, or a presentation with images, drawings, interviews on the correct management of ELTs.

Judging the competition will be a jury of experts composed of representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of the Environment, Legambiente and Ecopneus. The winning class will receive as a gift from Ecopneus an innovative latest generation 3X3 basketball court made with recycled rubber from ELT.

“Since 2011 Ecopneus has recovered over 2 million tons of ELTs, ensuring their capillary collection throughout Italy, their transport and subsequent treatment in specialized recovery and recycling plants,” said Giovanni Corbetta, General Manager of EcopneusELTs: to build a culture of sustainability, legality and respect for environment training of the new generations is essential ”

The educational project has already involved over 10,000 students in nine Italian regions from North to South, who have been able to see and in some cases “touch” the ELT recovery process and the methods for their correct management.  Themed events, educational activities and visits to the recycling plants in their own locale have made it possible to show young people the concrete result of managing an end-of-life product.
