As Easter approaches, German motorists are considering replacing their winter tyres. This changeover period can result in a bottleneck in tyre arisings. ZARE suggests that retailers should ensure that they dispose of their waste tyres through a ZARE partner.
ZARE Network Discuss Challenges
Tyre disposal costs are rising, according to ZARE, and with that tyre recycling fees are also on the increase for a number of reasons. One key cause of increased disposal costs is the reduction in the capacities used by cement kilns. As a result, new outlets for tyre derived materials need to be found.
Nevertheless, says ZARE, it is important that the used tyres are recycled in a sustainable manner and this is guaranteed by the certified waste tyre disposal companies. The group advises retailers to ensure that they inform their customers openly about the costs of disposal and how they dispose of the old tyres.
ZARE supports the industry with a recycling campaign package for tyre service companies and car workshops. The initiative provides easy-to-understand information material in the form of a flyer and poster. This campaign package is rounded off with the slogan; “We are thinking of tomorrow!”
The campaign helps retailers and workshops draw attention to the fact that they have used tyres disposed of by a certified company and thus make a significant contribution to sustainability. The campaign package can be ordered via the ZARE website for a contribution towards expenses of EUR 149.00 plus VAT. The prerequisite is that retailer, or the car repair shop have it disposed of by a certified company.
The ZARE Initiative Grows
Two new partners have joined the ZARE initiative and the coverage of Germany is improving with certified disposal operations throughout the country today.
The recent additions are:
- Mondo Reifenmarkt GmbH from Gescher-Hochmoor in Münsterland. The company specializes in the worldwide export of used tires.
- NZ disposal based in Altusried. The certified waste disposal company takes care of the disposal of all workshop waste. One of the main focuses is the professional disposal of old tyres and lead batteries.
BMBF Funding for the AZuR Network eEnds in May 2021
The AZuR network is developing well. Many companies and organisations have come together and are exchanging ideas about the future of waste tyre recycling. Around 30 AZuR partners are now discussing the renaissance of retreading, recycling, pyrolysis and sensible measures to reduce the mountain of used tyres.
One of these measures, which is funded by the BMBF, is the “Science Slam” project. Together with the “NEW LIFE” initiative and many universities and institutes, we motivate students who are studying rubber / elastomers to deal with the future of scrap tyre recycling. We are looking for innovative and practicable ideas. The winners will be announced on May 19, 2021, on the day of the AZuR closing event, on the website of the Scrap Tyre Recycling Innovation Forum . Prize money totalling € 3,000 awaits the first three places.
