Polish pyrolysis equipment firm, Syntoil finished second in the global Chivas Venture competition.

Syntoil Takes Second Place in Chivas Venture Competition

The Chivas Venture competition has been organised since 2014. It supports start-ups that have a chance to solve the biggest social and ecological problems in the world.

There is a million dollars in the prize pool, and entrepreneurs from around the globe enter the competition. This year, the organisers received nearly a thousand applications. Among the companies was Syntoil – a start-up which manufactures and sells installations for the processing of waste tyres and rubber waste for commercial products. According to the company’s representatives, the market on which they could operate is huge. In the USA alone, 490 million tyres are produced annually, of which only a minimal part can be processed.

In January, the firm won the Polish edition of the Chivas Venture, then participated in a series of seminars as part of the Chivas Venture Accelerator programme. At the world final, Martyna Sztaba – president of Syntoil – went to Amsterdam. There, the start-up managed to get through the quarterfinals and semi-finals and get to the final five.

The grand finale of the Chivas Venture competition took place during the TNW Conference. Representative, Martyna Sztaba presented before three thousand people and a jury. There were, among others, Alexandre Ricard, president of the group Pernod Ricard and actress Zoe Saldana, a businesswoman, philanthropist and actress known for such productions as Avatar and The Avengers.

Syntoil took second place in the world wide competition and received an award of $240,000 dollars.

“The truth is that we have won a lot more: global publicity, access to a great international network of entrepreneurs who, like us, see that impact and profit go together and a thousand other things – Martyna Sztaba wrote on Facebook. – We are very proud, because for the first time in the history of the Chivas Venture competition, a Polish project entered the main finale and won a place on the podium – she added.
