Oxford County Council is looking at trialing rubberised asphalt to repair roads.
Rubberised Asphalt Tested on Oxford Road Repairs
Oxford County Council are looking at using rubberised asphalt. However, before the recycling sector gets too excited, we should note that the rubberised asphalt is being used to make repairs, and is being tested alongside alternative processes.
It is, however, a step in the right direction. A trial undertaken by the council involved around 250 repairs, of which only two showed any signs of failure.
Yvonne Constance, the county council’s member for environment, said: “New ways of doing things need to be tested in real life situations to see how they perform. We have had some real successes which have gone from trials to business as usual, meaning our money goes further.”
Mrs Constance added: “Of course, sometimes the trials in Oxfordshire and elsewhere show up problems and that experience is just as valuable. If something fails to perform, we don’t use it until the problems have been addressed.”
