Hungarian Water Jet Recycling Receives Boost

Hungary’s Hot & Cold Therm (HCT), a company that plans and installs technical building systems, has developed machinery that uses high-pressure water jets to recycle tyres, according to a report by Hungarian state news.

HCT said the HUF 356 million (12.3M Euro) project was supported by a HUF 196 million European Union grant (6.77 M Euro).

Managing director Zoltán Benkő said that the company, based in Tiszalök (184 km northeast of Budapest), has set up a pilot plant that can turn out up to 500 tonnes of granulate from recycled tyres each year. The process, which involves the recovery of the complete tyre, is undertaken at room temperature in a closed, circular process, he added.

HCT developed the machinery using an invention it acquired several years earlier.

The company had net revenue of HUF 1.3 billion last year, public records show.
