Tyre recycling may not be the first thing that we think of when we consider Ecuador, but the reality is that any country that has a transport system will have a tyre recycling challenge to face. Tyre recycling is a global issue. In Ecuador, the management process is run by SEGINUS.
Tyre Recycling In Ecuador
SEGINUS is a non-profit corporation established in 2018 as the first circular economy model in the country.
Its associate members are the importing companies and the producers of tyres representing some 75 per cent of the Ecuadorian market.
The system is funded by the ECOVALOR – through the recycling fee for used tyres. The fee arises at the point of import or production and is passed onto the consumer. The fee pays for collection, transport and administration of the project to provide evidence management of the process, and it also funds social campaigns to educate the end user about the need for tyre recycling.
The main aim of SEGINUS is to work with all players in the industry to create a more sustainable environment. Consequentially, SEGINUS guarantees the integral recycling of the ELT to the Environment Authorities, of its members in a transparent and efficient way, integrating all the players in the tyre value chain.
