EcoTyre has invented a unique technology for end-of-life car tyre recycling. The results of long exhaustive research and development, technology and the concept of turning waste into a new resource were presented at the recent ClimateLaunchpad contest.
EcoTyre Creates Tyre Recycling Plant
On November 14-15, 2019, EcoTyre presented its innovative developments and took part in the international competition for green startups ClimateLaunchpad. The contest was supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. The event was held in the heart of the world’s tulip capital – Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 130 teams from 53 countries worldwide gathered together on one innovative platform. ClimateLaunchpad’s mission is to unlock the world’s cleantech potential that addresses climate change.
The EcoTyre project has a range of advantages. End-of-life tyre recycling is based on unique technology. Among its key strengths is the mobility of the recycling line and 100% tyre recycling. Unlike existing solutions, The EcoTyre line can be carried on two or three trucks and transport it to anywhere in the world. For example, install it directly on the landfill and recycle the tyres. Due to this development in this process, it is possible to separate the metal carcass of the tyre from the rubber. So, in the end, the output becomes metal, rubber and rubber-textile. The end result is zero waste tyre recycling.
Usually, the waste receiving and processing plants use the entire tyre recycling technology of the line and only at the end of the process do they separate metal, textile and rubber by electromagnets. As a result, the line manufactures rubber with metal inclusions. So, it is unsuitable for the re-production of tyres or rubber products.
“The project developers had a priority objective – to apply a technology for tyre recycling in order to obtain material from which a new tyre can be easily made. That’s why, as a basis, we took the principle of the microwave operation – the heating of the metal in the tyres using electromagnetic waves,” underlined Vladimir Emelyanov, Head of the Research and Development Center (R&D Center) of EcoTyre, PhD.
“We can show the finished product to the customer only after EcoTyre raises the necessary funds for the purchase of components and the manufacture of its equipment. Memorandums of intent have already been signed to purchase EcoTyre recycling lines worth over a million euros. We see the opportunities for further development. The global trends in this industry are aimed at creating closed-cycled production (a circular economy) therefore, we would be glad to cooperate with a large international tyre manufacturer,” emphasis Nazar Khalavka, co-founder and Chief Business Development Officer, EcoTyre.
EcoTyre startup representatives are negotiating on possible cooperation with CEYES / MTB. These companies specialise in the manufacture of different kinds of machines in France and install them all over the world: from design to commissioning on site. In particular, MTB is a manufacturer of mobile waste recycling equipment. The company has 40 years of successful experience in recycling, manufacturing and engineering. The geography of the company’s presence covers North America, Brazil, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Southeast Asia and Japan.
