Ecopneus Becomes a Blue Planet Ambassador

Ecopneus has been named Blue Ambassador by the Blue Planet Economy Expoforum

Ecopneus has received a recognition plaque as Blue Ambassador by the scientific technical committee of the Blue Planet Economy Expoforum, an event dedicated to the blue economy organised by Fiera Roma, for the continuous commitment in the management of End of Life Tyres and for the research and training of new skills and professions in line with the values of the Blue Economy.

Ecopneus, the main consortium company operator for the collection and recycling of ELTs in Italy, received the recognition as Blue Ambassador issued by the scientific technical committee of the Blue Planet Economy Expoforum, an event chaired by Roberto Morabito General Manager ENEA, for the continuous commitment in the management of ELT and for the research and training of new skills and professions in line with the values of the Blue Economy. The award is assigned to the most virtuous realities that have shown particular attention to the principles of the Blue Economy, especially in the formation of new professions.

In addition to the ELT collection and recycling activities, Ecopneus has worked hard over the years to spread greater knowledge on the applications of recycled rubber by activating and supporting various scientific studies and training initiatives alongside prestigious academic and research organisations in Italy; making ethics, skills, professionalism and know-how available to technical control bodies, law enforcement agencies and institutions.

For over ten years Ecopneus has been managing an industrial supply chain made up of about 100 companies throughout the country that guarantees the tracing, collection, transport and treatment of an average of about 200,000 tons of ELTs every year destined for recycling in many applications, in sport, and in the nautical sector, in infrastructures, furnishings or energy recovery up to the latest innovations in the fashion field in collaboration with the Maison Gattinoni, with important economic and environmental benefits.

In 2021, thanks to the recovery and recycling activity of Ecopneus, the emission of 310 thousand tons of CO2 equivalent was avoided, a water consumption of almost 1.23 million m3, a withdrawal of raw materials of 282 thousand tons and a reduction in imports of virgin material for a value of 79 million euros.

The important recognition was received by the General Manager of Ecopneus Federico Dossena who spoke as part of the Sustainable Education workshop.

“We are really proud to receive this important recognition because it reflects the great work we are carrying out for the development of ELT recycling, a sector that is increasingly playing a leading role in the development of the country’s circular economy.”  Said Dossena. “Ecopneus has always been clear that its role is to promote dynamics that go beyond the mere collection and recovery of a product at the end of its life, which know how to trigger virtuous mechanisms in which sustainability becomes a lever strategic development and central driver of the business choices of companies, creating qualified employment, fuelling research, development and training activities towards an ever greater use and knowledge of the applications of recycled rubber, a precious and versatile material that can really make a difference in many sectors, from industry to sport, up to infrastructure s trade them.”

With extensive experience and constant research in the field of innovation and sustainability, Ecopneus has always been engaged in training and awareness-raising activities on the issues of recycling, legality and environmental protection. In 2021 Ecopneus launched the Ecopneus Academy, a high-level training platform on issues related to the circular economy of ELT, from the correct management of recycling to the relevant legislation, up to the application sectors of recycled rubber, aimed at both companies and employees sectors than to school students. The Ecopneus Academy contains in a single vessel the many educational and training initiatives already launched by Ecopneus, such as the PFU Academy, the Educational project, the Sport Academy, and the coming initiatives.
