The Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) and Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee (ITTAC) are jointly organising a day-long conclave in Delhi to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities in the backdrop of sustainable management of End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs)
Both the bodies have taken the lead to convene a stakeholder engagement aimed at resource efficient and optimised recovery rates of ELTs and meet the requirements of the circular economy on 8th February 2023 in New Delhi.
ELT assumes importance as the production of tyres has more than doubled in India. In the next five years, it is likely to double again.
“The conference will provide a platform to discuss technical solutions and upgradation in the recycling technologies in order to better implement the EPR Policy announced by the Indian government. The conclave offers an opportunity for direct interaction between the stakeholders,” stated Chetan Joshi, President, All India Rubber & Tyre Recyclers Association (AIRTRA) is also among the key panelist on the topic of ‘Pyrolysis’ at the event.
Vishesh Aggarwal, (Director, AIRTRA) also agreed that ITTAC have taken a great initiative by bringing recyclers and tyre producers into single platform.
Session 1 includes discussion on government and industry perspective on EPR policy and regulatory framework. While Session 2 involves panel discussion on issues, challenges, and opportunities in ELT ecosystem with panelists like Harsh Gandhi, Chairman, Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI), B K Jalan, Director Tyremore Technologies and Karun Sanghi, Chairman, Tyre Retreading Education Association (TREA). While the concluding session will hear from Lina Goodman, CEO, Tyre Stewardship, Australia and Patrick Wiedemann, Global CEO, Reverse Logistics Group (RLG)
As a first-of-its-kind forum, ITTAC Conference is expected to attended by 150 invitees representing tyre manufacturers, recycling industry, reclaimed rubber manufacturers, government, consultants, reverse logistics providers, academia and transport sector all on one platform.
Meanwhile India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) constituted a nine-member steering committee appointing Chetan Joshi, President, All India Rubber & Tyre Recyclers Association (AIRTRA) as Member for implementation of Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) for waste tyre under the hazardous and other waste (Management & Transboundary Movement) Amended Rules 2022.
