A 3×3 basketball Tyrefield in recycled rubber will be donated by Ecopneus to the winning school of the Educational project promoted together with Legambiente on the correct recycling of End-of-Life  tyres.

An innovative 3×3 basketball court was donated the winning school of the competition “For a correct recycling of End of Life Tyres“, an Educational project of Legambiente and Ecopneus, which involved secondary schools of I and II degree in Lazio with classroom activities and lessons related to the correct recovery of ELT.

The awards event took place online on 25 May and was presented by the journalist Luca Pagliari who accompanied the students on a virtual journey to discover the advantages of correct ELT recycling and the multiple applications of recycled rubber. The event was also attended by basketball legend Giacomo Gek Galanda, who told the boys about his career and playing experience on the Tyrefield recycled rubber basketball courts.

The training project has already reached over 10,000 students in 10 regions from north to south of the country, with activities and lessons in the classroom. To support the training activities there was also a competition, which involved the children in making a video with a message related to good practices for the correct recovery of ELT. The works were evaluated by a jury of experts made up of representatives of Legambiente, Ecopneus, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which selected and announced the finalist classes.

The first place was won by the Luigi Mannetti Secondary School of Antrodoco (RI) which will receive as a gift from Ecopneus an innovative Tyrefield 3×3 basketball court in recycled rubber from ELT. On this occasion, the donation of flooring and furniture elements in recycled rubber was also made to the finalist schools of the Marche that participated in the previous edition of the competition, an award event postponed due to the pandemic.

“As Ecopneus, we have been heavily involved in recent years in training and awareness-raising activities aimed at young people on the issues of recycling, legality and environmental protection.” Declared Giovanni Corbetta, Ecopneus General Manager; “To foster and nourish the culture of sustainability it is essential to invest in the new generations: for this reason we have been promoting this important training project for some time with a partner of excellence to give the young people a concrete testimony of the benefits linked to the correct recycling of ELTs.”

“The circular economy is increasingly becoming the field of innovation that shows us what skills we need to have to find answers to this moment of health, environmental and social crisis,” said Vanessa Pallucchi National Vice President of Legambiente: “In this sense, the educational project by Ecopneus and Legambiente in the last two school years has made a significant contribution to providing keys to educating the children who participated. The resilience tests of the project itself were important. Adapted to different situations without ever neglecting the educational objectives and the vision of change towards sustainability “.

The Ecopneus and Legambiente project showed young people the concrete result of a correct management of ELTs, which transforms them into useful goods for all thanks to the contribution of citizens and all those responsible for the management cycle up to recycling, guaranteed by Ecopneus . The rubber obtained from the recycling of ELT is a precious and high quality material that is widely used all over the world to create sports surfaces, football fields, acoustic insulation, street furniture, for silent, safe and long-lasting asphalts or as energy.
