When the Recircle Awards were looking for trophies, it decided that rather than the ubiquitous engraved glass plaque, there was a need for something that reflected the nature of the Awards, and that was when Neusus stepped in.
Neusus is a Spanish company that uses recycled tyre crumb to create furniture and artworks from end-of-life tyres.
The design of this trophy created by Neusus has its origin in the Neo-Futurist architecture of the beginning of the century, which seeks to break with the vertical linearity and to create a dynamism in form.
The brand wanted to create a visual break in the object by combining two materials with opposite aesthetic characteristics, creating a contrast. Micronised rubber from 20 end-of-life tyres and copper from cables were used in its manufacture.
To obtain the micronised rubber that makes up this piece, different mills and sieves have been used to achieve a powder free of textile and steel. This can be considered the finest material that can be extracted from an end-of-life tyre.
The copper has been extracted by electromechanical processes thanks to technology that manages to isolate copper with 99.95% purity.
The piece was developed from two regular pentagons rotated 36 degrees with respect to each other and truncated at the end to generate a plane where the award information is collected. Thanks to Neusus’s Neulithe technology, these materials were shaped and transformed into the finished product.
