Saarbrucken city council was driven to clear an abandoned tyre site in Dudweiler of a large amount of tyres that had been collected and abandoned. The city council and the main waste contractor for the city, ZKE removed the tyres in November 2017.
Dudweiler Tyre Site Cleaned Up by Saarnrucken City Council
A spokesman for the council, Robert Mertes said that ZKE had moved 106 tons of used tyres, or around 15,000 tyres from the site, at a cost of around 20,000 Euro.
The city plans to recoup the cost of the collection from the former site operator. In early 2018 costs were claimed against the tyre company, and no objection was made, so the claim is deemed legally binding. However, it seems unlikely that the city will ever see a single cent of the costs.
In the meantime, the city council has been changing the development plan for the area to prevent a repetition of the case.
