A group of young people in South Africa have started an initiative to turn waste products into functional furniture. The idea is common across Africa and has even attracted some exponents in the USA and Australia.
Young People Take the Initiative in South Africa
However, this group of bored young people came up with an idea to occupy themselves, and perhaps make some money whilst making their local environment a better place.
They have made chairs from old tyres collected from dump sites that they plan on cleaning up.
The young people from Iz’koli art project in Port Elizabeth have begun a “clean-up” initiative. Not only that, but they will also be using waste material found at the dump sites that they will be turning into parks, to create furniture to complement the newly-cleaned-up areas.
