The Pakistani environment protection department intensified its crackdown in the district of Kasur with the objective to check those causing pollution in the wake of smog gripping the plains of Punjab.

Smog has plagued many of the heavily populated and industrialised areas in Pakistan and India recently and authorities are clamping down on polluters. The challenge is reported on the grapevine that the sanctions are not always based on the pollution but on the fees paid or not paid to officials.
According to a spokesperson, several teams including the district administration officials, police etc conducted raids in various areas and sealed some brick kilns, and industrial units, impounded smoke-emitting vehicles, and imposed fines on the drivers of such vehicles.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Kot Radha Kishan sealed Makkah sugar mills, Urooj industry, and imposed fine amounting to Rs 150,000.
Meanwhile, AC Chunian sealed the Rizwan-ul-Haq tyre pyrolysis plant for polluting the environment, and AC Pattoki sealed two steel mills and four brick kilns. Cases were registered against them.
